This is the 484th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Enough

Sara Lee was declared the winner of the sixth season of WWE’s reality series called ‘Tough Enough’ in May of 2015. Her win earned her a one year contract with the promotion, but her wrestling career did not last very long. She ended up walking away from WWE and starting a family with wrestler Wesley Blake to which they got married and had three children together. You can read more about her brief WWE developmental career here.

Sara was hinting that she was potentially planning a return to pro wrestling and would showcase herself training on social media. On October 5, 2022…Sara Lee’s lifeless body was discovered by her husband at their home in San Antonio, Texas. It was reported that their were letters found at the scene where Sara wrote her intentions to commit suicide. An autopsy confirmed that when it was determined that Sara had overdosed on sleeping pills and alcohol.

After her death, her husband wrote on social media…
“I loved you from the first moment I saw you. I would always say that you were an angel walking on this earth. Beautiful, compassionate, strong and so loving. An angel that blessed me with 3 of the most beautiful children I could imagine.”
“But you were soo much more than just mom. You were a motivator, a best friend, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, the back bone of our family, and (my favorite), my wife. I really don’t know what to say in these uncertain times. I just know that death can’t take away the memories we made.”
“I will never stop grieving, but I’m at peace knowing that you are free. I can’t thank you enough for giving me the best years of my life so far.”

While her reasoning to kill herself was never released to the public…her sister in law did release a family statement that read…“Sara lived for 30 years. And she lived a lot of beautiful moments in those 30 years. Her death was a very short chapter in a very beautiful life. A chapter that needs no explanation or comments. Seven months ago today she left us and the details matter no more then, than they do now.” Sara Lee was just 30 years old at the time of her death. She leaves behind her husband Wesley Blake and three children.
Daddy Issues

Bobby Davis has been considered one of the most influential managers in pro wrestling history. His gimmick of a wimpy, loudmouth troublemaker inspired future managerial great Bobby ‘the Brain’ Heenan. Davis was no stranger to generating hatred from the fans. An earlier edition of Wrestling With Sin talked about an incident where he nearly had his nose torn off which you can read here.

Another incident took place after a match in which Davis was managing ‘Nature Boy’ Buddy Rogers. While making their way to the back, a “fan” attacked Davis and then spit on his face. When Buddy Rogers turned around to see what was happening, the fan took off running. The fan was later arrested and turned out to be a former postal worker from Dover, Delaware. The postman was out on disability and said he attacked Davis to get his attention. He claimed to be the illegitimate son of Bobby Davis. As it turned out, the postal worker was actually nine years older than Davis.
Driving on Empty

Former WCW tag team champion Scotty Riggs opened up about his battles with depression and how his former tag team partner saved his life. Riggs said that after his mother passed away, he fell into a deep depression. He was broke and living in his car with his three cats. His life seemed bleak at best for the former WCW star and he said he became suicidal.
Out of nowhere, his former ‘American Males’ tag team partner Buff Bagwell texted him to see how he was doing and Riggs opened up to him that he was struggling. Bagwell told him to make his way down to Atlanta, Georgia and come meet him there. Riggs, who was in Savannah, Georgia at the time…said he would be there in about a week, he jest needed to find money for new tires. Bagwell refused to accept that answer and told him to get there that day. Riggs reluctantly agreed and did so. Bagwell reintroduced Riggs to fellow WCW alumni ‘Diamond’ Dallas Page, who helped Scotty Riggs get his life back on track.
Take A Bite Out Of Crime

In May of 1972, two pro wrestlers were arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer. The incident took place at a wrestling event in Logan, West Virginia when wrestler Gene Madrid (Later known as ‘Gypsy Joe’) got into a physical altercation with a fan at ringside. A police officer named Otto Mutters attempted to break up the fight, when Madrid bit the officer on the hand and then became physical on the officer.
The police officer and Gene Madrid exchanged punches, when a fellow wrestler named Pat Clancy jumped in the middle of the fracas to assist Madrid. Both wrestlers were arrested and charged with assault and battery. The judge in the case sentenced Gene Madrid to a 70 day jail sentence and a 250 dollar fine, while Pat Clancy was sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay a 100 dollar fine.
