This is the 367th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.
Fuels Rush In
The Von Erich brothers were notoriously known for their extracurricular activities outside the ring as much as their in ring accomplishments. Drugs were extremely prevalent in their private lives as fans and wrestlers alike would supply the Von Erichs drugs to get closer to them. When the Von Erich boys were low on drugs and cash, they apparently found other ways to get high. According to wrestler Brett Sawyer, the brothers would allegedly huff on gas fumes at their home to get a cheap buzz.
Former World Class announcer Marc Lowrance also claimed that Kerry Von Erich would hang out in his father Fritz’s office at the Dallas Sportatorium with his wife. Kerry allegedly used to walk around the office in the nude and bring in guests and visitors to the office completely in the buff while his wife was present.
Tank You For Nothing
In December of 1999 on an episode of WCW Thunder, former MMA fighter Tank Abbott took on Mexican luchador La Parka. The match quickly escalated into a shoot fight with Abbott landing stiff kicks and punches on a seemingly defenseless La Parka. La Parka rolled out of the ring, grabbed a chair and hit Abbott over the head with it which La Parka “no sold.” Abbott then landed a punch on La Parka’s chin allegedly knocking him out cold.
According to Tank Abbott, the “worked/shoot” match was legitimate and had no prior history with La Parka. Abbott said his mentor in WCW Rick Steiner encouraged Abbott to go to the ring and “F up La Parka.” So that is exactly what Abbott did with no questions asked. Apparently many wrestlers in the locker room did have heat with La Parka due to “attitude issues” including Steiner and they used Abbott to rough him up.
Mama Mina!
Mina Shirakawa is a former model, singer and actress turned professional wrestler. She has competed on the Japanese independent circuit and for World Wonder Ring Stardom. While a bit green in the ring, she has become a very popular wrestler due to her beauty and charisma. Mina has also posed semi nude for several magazines and did a striptease for her social media followers during the pandemic lockdown.
Some of pictures are a bit more risque than others, but she has also done some videos where her breasts are being groped by a man.
Demolition Derby
In 2001, over 60 people were arrested in an insurance fraud ring. It was the largest in New York history with over $10 million scammed from auto insurers over a two year period. Some of the people arrested were two NYC police officers and an independent wrestler named Carmine Azzato better known as ‘Demolition Blast.’ Azzato often teamed with Bill ‘Demolition Ax’ Eadie on the indie circuit. Azzato allegedly drove cars and would purposely get into accidents to collect insurance money.
Azzato was one of the only people arrested that immediately plead guilty to fraud. The judge in the case decided to show mercy to Azzato and only gave him probation for his role in the crimes. Since his brush with the law, Azzato became a preacher and a motivational speaker.
