This is the 359th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involves such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series…I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

In the Bag

In May of 2021, Marcus ‘Buff’ Bagwell hit another vehicle in his hometown of Woodstock, Georgia. Bagwell then allegedly fled the scene and the other driver followed Bagwell for over 2 miles. When the wrestler finally stopped, he claimed he was having battery issues as the reason he didn’t stop initially. When the police arrived, they discovered there was a warrant out for his arrest on a previous car accident in August of 2020 which was discussed here.

Bagwell was arrested and eventually released on bonds that ranged up to $15,000. Buff Bagwell insists he is innocent and told TMZ…

He was charged with the following:

  • DUI
  • Failure to yield
  • Four counts of hit and run
  • Three counts of following too closely
  • Driving on the wrong side of the roadway
  • Duty upon striking a fixed object
  • Speeding
  • Driving within a median or emergency lane
  • Reckless driving
  • License to be carried and exhibited on demand
  • Open container
  • Giving false name, address or birthday to law enforcement officer.

I just don’t understand why everybody’s worrying. I just think, honest to God brother, I really, really am thankful for them reaching out with their prayers and I thank everybody for that, I just want to say I’m fine, thank you for your prayers. Without the wrestling fans, there is no Buff.” Bagwell denied the hit and run allegations and looks forward to proving that in court.

Far From A Gentleman

‘Gentleman’ Chris Adams was married to Toni Collins for nearly 10 years. In those years, Toni got herself involved in pro wrestling serving as a valet to her husband. The marriage was a tumultuous one with Chris’ heavy drinking and womanizing. According to Chris’ ex wife Jeanie Clarke, Toni and Chris were involved in several violent domestic disputes.

One of those incidents involved Toni Adams approaching Chris about his cheating and it resulted with Chris allegedly striking Toni and breaking her nose. Eventually, Toni started her own affair involving one of Chris’ friends…Kerry Von Erich as detailed here. The couple officially divorced in 1994.

Bro-tographs

Former MMA and current WWE star Matt Riddle has a series of nude photographs published on the internet. There is also a video in which Riddle masturbates on a wrestling mat in a gym. More than likely the pics and video were hacked from his phone as was/is the case with several female wrestlers.

Death Grip

On May 24th, 1940, at a carnival in Pilot Grove, Missouri…a wrestler named Dale Hanson was performing a wrestling exhibition. The promoter named Jack Carroll, invited any spectator in attendance if they wanted to get in the ring and wrestle Hanson. A 28 year old black man named Richard Smith accepted the invitation and climbed into the ring. The exhibition match lasted a total of three minutes with Hanson applying a sleeper hold on Smith. The referee signaled for Hanson to release the hold and when he did….Smith crumpled to the mat.

Realizing Smith was unresponsive, medical staff entered the ring and declared that the spectator was dead. Dale Hanson was never arrested for Smith’s death, as it was ruled “accidental.” Hanson was fined $5 for wrestling without a legitimate license. Sadly, Richard Smith was the father of two children and had no insurance. The family had no money to bury him, so he was buried by the county.
