This is the 295th installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching interviews, newspapers, magazines and various other sources of media.

Kid’s Play

While the WWF was on a west coast trip in Reno, Nevada….The Dynamite Kid of the British Bulldogs decided to have a little fun with the ring crew. Dynamite allegedly took a ring boy’s soda and drugged it. He then placed the soda back where the 18 year old ring boy left it. A little while later, Dynamite sat ringside watching the ring crew take down the ring witha smile on his face.

A little while later, the 18 year old went into a daze and could only move in slow motion. Dynamite laughed and walked away. The ring boy wound up passing out in the truck and couldn’t be revived for a long period of time. The rest of the ring crew feared the young man had died. Luckily, the boy awoke and didn’t need medical attention.

Rio Grande..Problema

Former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio was arrested in May of 2020 in San Antonio, Texas and charged with a 2nd degree felony of sexual assault. According to police reports, Alberto…real name Jose Rodriguez…accused his girlfriend of infidelity. When she denied the allegations, Del Rio repeatedly slapped her and then dragged her to a downstairs bedroom. He then allegedly forced her to wear a dress and dance for him.

When she began to cry, Del Rio allegedly threatened to take her child and “drop him off in the middle of the road somewhere.” He was then accused of tying her hands, putting a sock in her mouth and raping her for several hours. He then allegedly punched the woman in her in the back and grabbed her by her throat until she fell unconscious.

A judge set his bond at 50,000 dollars. He posted the money and was released from jail. As of this writing, no word of when Alberto will return to court to address these allegations.

Ring of Dis-Honor

Former Ring of Honor wrestler/agent BJ Whitmer announced that he and his wife…Former ROH Women’s Champion Kelly Klein were divorcing. Whitmer and Klein were married in 2017. According to Whitmer, Klein had cheated on him with someone else…but wouldn’t divulge who the other person was. In a statement, Whitmer said:

“I have a personal statement to make. My wife Kelly Klein and I are divorcing. This is happening because Kelly breached the trust in our relationship by stepping outside of our marriage. This is the only thing I have to say about the matter. This has been a very difficult time for myself and my family. News or our split was already spreading around the business and I wanted to make a statement before it made it to social media or wrestling media. Thank you, BJ”

Some have speculated that the other person could in fact be former Ring of Honor agent Joey Mercury. Mercury and Klein seemed to work together to try and get a better deal for Klein. Mercury went as far as to reveal details of Klein’s Ring of Honor contract. Despite the speculation, Klein and Mercury have been quiet on the topic.

Beer Guts

In 1989, ‘Dirty’ Dick Murdoch was fired from the NWA/WCW after he looked Jim Herd in his eyes and told him that he didn’t know a thing about professional wrestling. At 43 years old,not many promotions were knocking on his door. Murdoch decided to take a 90,000 dollar a year job as a goodwill ambassador for the Coors Brewing Company. The job seemed to fit Murdoch like a glove considering his love of drinking beer and his gift of gab from all his year in wrestling.

One day, Coors was sponsoring a rodeo in Amarillo, Texas and sent Murdoch to do promotions. While hanging out with fans and drinking beer…an individual in the stands noticed Murdoch as being a pro wrestler and began cursing and calling Murdoch out. For a while, Murdoch simply ignored the heckling…but eventually his “old school” mentality took over. He ran up in the stands and assaulted the man heckling him.

It wasn’t long before Murdoch was back on the road as a pro wrestler and no longer shilling Coors beer.
