Grappling with Tragedy is a series of articles that deal with unfortunate, tragic incidents that have occurred throughout the history of professional wrestling. It is unlike the ‘Wrestling with Sin’ series that deals more with the seedier side of wrestling like arrests, murders and suicides. Grappling looks more at particular tragic incidents that have in some instances altered pro wrestling in some way.
Don Carver

Don Carver was a Texas born wrestler, who started his career in 1935, wrestling for various territories across the United States. While having some success in the States, Carver would find his greatest success wrestling overseas. He wrestled for EMLL in Mexico and also competed in Europe. More specifically Spain, where Carver was a top attraction.
Don Carver wrestled as a heel and was pushed hard by promoters as a foreign menace. He was a champion in Spain and wrestled there exclusively for over two years. His career and life were abruptly cut short on August 18, 1948…when walking on th streets of Spain, he was accidentally hit by a street car.
Carver was rushed to a local hospital, and had his leg amputated. Sadly, Carver would die after surgery. He was just 37 years old at the time of his death.
