Grappling with Tragedy is a series of articles that deal with unfortunate, tragic incidents that have occurred throughout the history of professional wrestling. It is unlike the ‘Wrestling with Sin’ series that deals more with the seedier side of wrestling like arrests, murders and suicides. Grappling looks more at particular tragic incidents that have in some instances altered pro wrestling in some way.

Chelsey Cartwright

Chelsey Cartwright trained and became a pro wrestler in 2006. She was a second generation wrestler, whose father was Steve Cartwright. She wrestled mainly in Europe in places like England, France and Spain, but also competed in places like China. Her ultimate goal was to reach and wrestle in the United States. Cartwright wrestled under a few different aliases like ‘Chelsey Love,’ but was most known under the ring name of ‘Bubbles.’

She received the name Bubbles due to her very positive, bubbly personality. Outside of the ring, Chelsey was heavily involved in charitable work, co authored a book entitled ‘The Immature Handbook: How Not to be a Mess’ and was a devoted mother of two young girls.

In the early morning hours of June 14, 2022, Cartwright was driving home when she suddenly and tragically crashed her car into a tree. She was just 31 years old at the time of her death.
