Grappling with Tragedy is a series of articles that deal with unfortunate, tragic incidents that have occurred throughout the history of professional wrestling. It is unlike the ‘Wrestling with Sin’ series that deals more with the seedier side of wrestling like arrests, murders and suicides. Grappling looks more at particular tragic incidents that have in some instances altered pro wrestling in some way.

Billy Redwood

William Crumpton Jr was trained by wrestler Cpl Punishment and made his debut in 2001. He wrestled under the ring name of ‘Redneck’ Billy Redwood. Billy Redwood worked mainly on the northeast independent circuit…specifically areas such as Pennsylvania and Maryland.

His wrestling career was just beginning, when on July 7, 2004….Redwood allegedly fell asleep while driving and was involved in a horrific crash that took his life. William ‘Billy Redwood’ Crumpton was just 28 years old at the time of his death.
